The basics

What is perinatal and postpartum therapy?

Perinatal therapy is individual or couples counseling for mental health before, during, and after pregnancy, addressing perinatal mood and anxiety disorders (PMADs). Our clinicians focus on five common presenting areas: postpartum depression, postpartum anxiety, birth trauma, intrusive thoughts, and identity shift. This is for you if this stage feels harder than you expected after your baby arrived.

Eye Cue Mental Health is psychotherapy only. We do not prescribe medication, diagnose medical conditions, or provide obstetric or medical care. What we offer is talk therapy with a clinician who understands the hormonal, relational, and identity changes of the perinatal window.

How it works

How does perinatal and postpartum therapy work here?

Intake is by phone at 562-860-2891. We ask about your insurance, what you are carrying right now, and what you are looking for, then match you with a clinician whose focus and availability fit your needs. Multilingual sessions in Spanish, Farsi, Tagalog, Hindi, Urdu, and Punjabi are available across our team, confirmed at intake.

You choose in-person at our Cerritos office or secure video anywhere in California, with the same therapist either way. We schedule weekly sessions, not biweekly or monthly, when that is clinically appropriate, and treatment length follows your medical necessity, not a session quota. If the baby's day makes in-person impossible, you switch to video that week; if the fit is off, we match you with another clinician on our team.

Why us

Why choose Eye Cue for perinatal therapy in Cerritos?

Private perinatal practices in this market are often cash pay only. Eye Cue accepts Medi-Cal, Anthem Medi-Cal, and Blue Shield Promise Medi-Cal statewide, plus LA Care and Molina in LA County, and we also accept Cigna and Aetna. About 70% of the cases we serve run on Medi-Cal, so we are fluent in it.

We are open 7 days a week, 8 AM to 10 PM, including weekends, when many outpatient clinics are closed. If you have been getting only biweekly or monthly slots elsewhere, that is not how we work; we schedule weekly sessions when that is medically appropriate. Multilingual and Muslim-affirming care is available through our team, confirmed at intake, with sessions in Spanish, Farsi, Tagalog, Hindi, Urdu, and Punjabi each offered by a clinician on our team.

What it helps with

What can perinatal and postpartum therapy help with?

The concerns our clinicians work with in perinatal therapy, in person at the Cerritos office and by video statewide. If you do not see your concern, call us; intake is the best way to find out if we fit.

Postpartum depression and PPD

Sadness, numbness, or an inability to feel connected after birth. Individual depression therapy addresses PPD across its full range.

Postpartum and prenatal anxiety

Racing thoughts, fear of harming the baby, and sleep deprivation driven by perinatal anxiety. Anxiety therapy works through the nervous system dysregulation underneath.

Birth trauma and PTSD after childbirth

Grief after a traumatic birth experience or intrusive memories. Trauma-informed care is available through trauma therapy at our practice.

Perinatal grief and pregnancy loss

Deep sadness after a miscarriage, fertility struggle, or infant loss. Pregnancy loss therapy and perinatal grief counseling are in scope.

Mom rage and postpartum irritability

Intense anger or irritability that does not feel like you. Postpartum anger is a recognized symptom, not a character flaw.

Identity shift and matrescence

The change in identity that comes with becoming a parent, including loss of self, isolation, and loneliness in early motherhood.

Who it is for

Who is perinatal and postpartum therapy for?

We serve anyone in the perinatal window, with six languages available across our team for multilingual care. That includes anyone pregnant, postpartum, or processing grief after a pregnancy loss. It also includes couples, because relationship strain after a baby is one of the most common reasons partners call us.

We offer couples counseling in Cerritos for partners working through postpartum adjustment together. Choose individual therapy if you are working through postpartum challenges on your own first.

A safety note

What if symptoms feel severe or unsafe right now?

Some perinatal symptoms are medical emergencies. Postpartum psychosis, thoughts of harming yourself or your baby, and thoughts of self-harm need urgent help, not a scheduled therapy appointment. If you are in crisis, call or text the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline any time.

Eye Cue Mental Health is an outpatient psychotherapy practice, not a crisis center, and we do not prescribe medication or provide crisis intervention. Once you are safe, we are here for ongoing therapy to support your recovery.

Coverage

What insurance is accepted for perinatal therapy?

Whether your plan covers perinatal therapy depends on your plan and medical necessity. We verify your benefits before your first session. Eye Cue Mental Health accepts Anthem Medi-Cal and Blue Shield Promise Medi-Cal statewide, LA Care and Molina in LA County, and Cigna and Aetna statewide. Call us with your insurance card and we check together before you book.

Frequently asked questions about perinatal and postpartum therapy

Still unsure? Call 562-860-2891 and we will talk it through, no commitment.

Consider therapy when symptoms last more than two weeks or interfere with daily life, bonding, or your relationship. We see clients across the full range, from early concern through acute postpartum mood and anxiety disorders. Earlier care is easier care; there is no threshold you have to reach before calling.

We accept Medi-Cal, including Anthem Medi-Cal and Blue Shield Promise Medi-Cal statewide, and LA Care and Molina in LA County. Whether your specific plan covers perinatal or postpartum therapy depends on your plan and medical necessity. We verify your coverage before your first session. Call 562-860-2891 to check.

Perinatal therapy focuses on the mental health of parents before, during, and after pregnancy. A clinician trained in this area recognizes the hormonal, relational, and identity shifts that make this period distinct from other life stages. Start here if your symptoms connect to pregnancy, postpartum, or pregnancy loss.

Intake is by phone. Call 562-860-2891 and we will find you an opening as soon as possible. We are open 7 days a week, 8 AM to 10 PM, including Saturday and Sunday. Weekend and evening slots expand availability well beyond standard weekday clinic hours.

We offer both. In-person sessions are available at our Cerritos office. Telehealth sessions are available statewide in California under our Anthem Medi-Cal, Blue Shield Promise Medi-Cal, Cigna, and Aetna contracts. You can switch between in-person and video with the same therapist as your schedule changes.

Call us at intake to confirm current accommodations. We want to remove barriers to starting care and will walk you through what to expect for your first session.

Yes. Birth trauma and intrusive memories after childbirth are recognized presenting issues in perinatal mental health. Trauma-informed therapy is available through our practice. Your clinician will approach the full picture, and postpartum depression treatment often overlaps with birth trauma work in the same plan.

If your first therapist is not the right fit, we match you with another clinician on our team. You do not have to leave the practice or restart the insurance process. The same clinician can move with you between in-person and telehealth as your life changes.
