The basics
What is Farsi-speaking therapy and who benefits from it?
Farsi-speaking therapy is psychotherapy delivered in Persian by a clinician who shares cultural fluency, not just language ability. Research on culturally and linguistically responsive care indicates that working in a client's first language can reduce the self-editing that happens when translating, which lets the therapeutic work begin sooner. See the APA guidance on culturally and linguistically responsive care for more.
This option fits you if you are Iranian-American, a recent immigrant from Iran, or a Persian-speaking adult who wants a therapist who understands the cultural weight behind words like "aaberu" or family obligation without needing an explanation. Our team includes Farsi-speaking clinicians, and availability is confirmed at your intake call.
Language access
Why does language matter so much in therapy?
Per the APA's guidance on culturally and linguistically responsive care, a language match in therapy is a clinical equity issue, not just a comfort preference. Therapy in a second language is harder than it looks. You edit yourself as you translate, which means the therapist often gets a cleaned-up version of what you are actually feeling.
That translation layer can slow the work down and add cognitive load on top of what is already a vulnerable conversation. For Persian and Iranian-American clients in LA and Orange County, seeing a Farsi-speaking clinician removes that layer and lets the actual therapeutic work begin sooner. If language is a factor in your search, our therapy services and intake team can match you accordingly.
Coverage
How is Farsi-speaking therapy available at Eye Cue?
Eye Cue offers therapy in Farsi, with current availability confirmed at your intake call. Our intake team matches you based on language, clinical fit, and your insurance plan before your first appointment. We accept Medi-Cal and many private plans, including Cigna, Aetna, Anthem Medi-Cal, and Blue Shield Promise Medi-Cal.
Medi-Cal covers outpatient mental health services when medical necessity criteria are met, and we verify your benefits before your first session. Whether your specific plan covers Farsi-speaking therapy depends on your plan type. Call us and our intake team will confirm your benefits before scheduling. See our Medi-Cal therapy page for more on coverage.
What we treat
What can you work on in Farsi-speaking therapy?
Our clinicians work with adults and teens across a range of concerns common in Iranian-American communities. These areas represent what clients most often bring to a first session. If you do not see your concern, call us; intake is the best way to find out if we fit.
Anxiety and depression
Anxiety therapy and depression therapy address social anxiety, generalized worry, and low mood, including symptoms that often go unnamed in Persian family culture.
Trauma and PTSD
Trauma therapy supports clients processing political displacement, family separation, or past events, with EMDR available for trauma and stress-related concerns.
Relationships and family
Couples counseling and family therapy work with communication patterns and dynamics shaped by Iranian family life, across generations.
Identity and adjustment
Adjustment concerns and cultural identity stress affect first- and second-generation clients. Clinicians work with the pressure of holding two cultures at once.
Grief and loss
Grief and loss include immigration-related loss of community and the quieter grief of leaving a home country behind. Clinicians make space for what is hard to name.
Teens and attention
Teen therapy supports second-generation adolescents, and ADHD and attention concerns are addressed with a culturally informed lens.
How we work
Is this a real private practice or another community clinic?
Eye Cue Mental Health is a private outpatient practice, not a community mental health agency. There are no metal detectors, no shared waiting rooms with acute psychiatric clients, and no algorithm deciding how many sessions you get. Treatment length is based on your medical necessity. See how individual therapy at Eye Cue works if you want to understand the session format before you call. We treat clients on Medi-Cal the same way a private-practice client would expect to be treated, because that is the only model we are willing to run.
For Iranian-American clients specifically, the cultural context of seeking mental health care matters. Many families come from backgrounds where therapy carries stigma, or where emotional struggles are managed privately within the family. Our intake team understands that context. We do not require you to explain yourself before your first appointment, and we will not pathologize cultural norms that are simply different from mainstream American mental health frameworks.

Good questions
Common questions about Farsi-speaking therapy in Los Angeles
Still unsure? Call 562-860-2891 and we will talk it through, no commitment.
Yes. Eye Cue Mental Health accepts Medi-Cal as a primary plan for most clients. We verify your specific coverage before your first session so you know what to expect. Whether your exact plan covers Farsi-speaking therapy depends on your plan type and medical necessity. Call 562-860-2891 and our intake team will check your benefits on the spot.
Tell us. You can switch to another clinician within Eye Cue Mental Health without losing your insurance relationship or starting the intake process over. We would rather match you to the right fit than have you drop out of care.
Many clients find telehealth works well, especially for talk-based therapy. If you are working through trauma and find that the format is not meeting your needs, you can switch to in-person at our Cerritos office with the same clinician. The American Psychological Association recognizes telehealth as an effective delivery format for psychotherapy, including for culturally and linguistically diverse populations.
Call us before you lose coverage and we will check whether we hold a contract with your new plan. Our goal is to keep your care continuous. We navigate insurance changes with clients rather than terminating care when a plan switches.
Yes. Eye Cue provides therapy to children and adolescents in addition to adults. If your teenager is more comfortable in Farsi, or if you want family sessions that do not require English as the working language, ask our intake team about availability. Many second-generation Iranian-American teens navigate life in English at school while home life operates in Farsi, and our team can work in the language that best serves the client's therapeutic goals.
Session frequency is based on your clinician's clinical assessment of what you need, not on a session quota. We work from medical necessity, and weekly sessions are available when your clinician determines that is the right cadence for your care. If your situation changes and less frequent sessions become appropriate, your clinician will make that recommendation based on your progress, not on a platform-imposed limit.
We are psychotherapy only and do not prescribe medication or provide crisis intervention. If you are in crisis, call or text 988, the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline, any time. You can also reach the Crisis Text Line by texting HOME to 741741.
